Biography

Brett grew up in Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina and attended Socastee High School. When he wasn't in school, he spent most of his time outdoors, playing sports, surfing, hanging out on the beach, fishing and boating on the waters of Murrell's Inlet, Winyah Bay and the Waccamaw River, or deer hunting and duck hunting throughout the Low Country.

As an undergrad, Brett attended the University of South Carolina's Coastal Carolina College, where he served on the South Carolina Student Legislature and as the Senior Class President for the Class of 1990. He attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and worked as a law clerk for the law firm of Newsome and Peake in Northeast Columbia as well as the South Carolina Legislature's House Judiciary Committee, under the Chairmanship of future Governor Jim Hodges.

After Law School, Brett practiced law in Columbia for several years before moving back to Murrell's Inlet, where he worked for the Myrtle Beach Police Department, had a private practice with an emphasis in Real Estate law and taught legal classes at a local community college.

In 2011, Brett relocated to Camden, South Carolina, where he served for eight years as Deputy Solicitor, running the office responsible for prosecuting criminal cases in Kershaw County. In the fall of 2018, he went back into private practice, with offices in both Camden and North Myrtle Beach. His practice has an emphasis in the areas of criminal defense and real estate matters, as well as domestic relations. He also handles select civil cases and probate matters, including administering estates and drafting wills, trusts and powers of attorney.
